My dad was a carpenter; my grandfather was a carpenter who helped build the White City at the Columbian Exposition in Chicago. My Great-Grandfather was a cabinet maker. I'm a DJ...I couldn't drive a nail straight into a board if my life depended on it!
So I empathize with the Swedish-Finnish composer Bernhard Crusell. His father was a book-binder and his grandfather was a book-binder and Bernhard himself would rather sit in the village street listening to flute music than re-glue an old tome. This was a tendency that Crusell's father tried to beat out of him.
Despite that, he became a clarinetist and the finest Scandinavian composer of his age. He wrote for his instrument of choice —the clarinet — and clarinetists have been happily playing Bernhard Crusell's concertos ever since.
