A new box set from Decca will contain the complete works of Mozart. At 200 discs, Mozart 225: The New Complete Edition is being called the largest box set of all time.
The set, which commemorates 225 years having passed since Mozart's death, will be released on Oct. 28. It contains 240 hours of music divided among 4,000 tracks, played by 60 different orchestras and originally released on 20 different record labels.
The price? Somewhere between $350 and $500, depending on where you make the buy. For that money, though, you also get two books. In addition to all of Mozart's well-known (and lesser-known) operas, symphonies, and chamber works, the set includes one newly-discovered song.
Though this seems to be the largest box set ever issued, there have been plenty of whoppers in the classical world — among them the 142-disc set collecting the recordings of Arthur Rubenstein and Teldec's 153-disc Bach 2000 set.
