Organist Alcee Chriss III grew up in Dallas surrounded by southern gospel music. The pipe organ first impressed him when he watched Hour of Power, an evangelical church service broadcast on television every week that featured choir and organ music. A graduate of Oberlin Conservatory and McGill University, he has won many organ competitions over the years. Now, he plays recitals all over the world and performs his music completely from memory. A tremendous advocate for the instrument, he breaks down barriers and attracts new audiences to organ music through his incorporation of jazz and gospel.
