Anthony Parnther is a conductor who works hard to push classical music to new thresholds. Throughout his career, he has restored orchestral works by Black composers. And for more than a decade, he has been music director of the Southeast Symphony, the historically Black orchestra in Los Angeles founded in 1948. Through his diverse work and advocacy for Black composers, he is actively changing the perceptions of what classical music can be and who it can reach.
