An artist who follows his heart will find himself in strange places.
Matt Haimovitz, one of the best cellists in the world, is an artist with an amazing command of his instrument, and a heart that has taken him and his cello to concert halls, recording studios, and night clubs.
Haimovitz consumes music like most of us breathe.
If his discography is any indication, his tastes are eclectic and deep. He has recorded the standard cello literature and has struck out on his own, playing and recording works by contemporary ethnic groups like Constantinople, and bands like Led Zeppelin, many of these on his own label, Oxingale.
Haimovitz started playing the Bach solo cello suites in night clubs a few years ago. At the time it seemed a strange. Today, not so much.
Haimovitz joined Steve Staruch in the Maud Moon Weyerhaeuser Studio at Classical MPR to play Bach and other works, in anticipation of the Bach 325th.
