I grew up in a family of divas -- well, my mom anyway who starred in dozens of plays in her career and spends her retirement as a managing director of a community theater in Wisconsin.
I had my diva-esque thespian moments when I was young. Now, I'm more often found in the audience of the various theaters in our cities - particularly the Guthrie - where I've loved being transported to another world.
So it was certainly great news when I learned earlier this week that Artistic Director Joe Dowling would continue for another five years with the company.
And also great news that Joe is a classical music lover who often uses classic works - or original music - in his plays. He was most gracious to stop by and co-host a Saturday morning session of music with me and share the music he loves and his choices reveal his penchant for the romantic, the touching, and the Irish (but of course!)
As well, he found choosing just one piece by Mozart a challenge and would have preferred the aria Mayor Coleman picked last week, but finally settled on a Rondo.
