Thirty-two year old Stuart Loughridge creates works of art of a moody and internal beauty.
The realism is so exceptional - whether in oils, watercolor or prints - one feels her breathe taken away as though looking at a photograph, all while seeing more deeply into the subject.
One shivers at the frigid air in a snow covered scene. One strains to see the look in the eyes of a lonely hiker on the side of an Ecuadoran mountain. And one longs to feel the spring air walking down the path of a vibrant green field.
Stuart works on his larger canvases in particular while listening to classical music.
He will find one piece of classical music that captures the mood or, more importantly, helps him solve problems he runs into when painting. These can be concerning expanding from a small sketch to a large canvas, or creating flow or simply energizing himself to attack the painting each day.
He stopped by MPR with four paintings and the four classical pieces he listens to while he created them. It was a revelation. I recommend following along with the slide show of his work while listening.
