Biologist Nancy Gibson is co-founder of The International Wolf Center in Ely.
Her life is devoted to the study and conservation of wolves, including reintroducing them to Yellowstone and Idaho.
She has been named conservationist of the year, won numerous awards including two Emmy's and was recognized as a Notable Woman by the First Lady.
Classical music has long been a part of this amazing woman's life from the time her father would invite her to waltz with him in their living room accompanied by Mozart.
It's actually sound itself that attracted Nancy to a life in the wild - the wild choruses of creatures that she still listens to from an open window at night even in the dead of winter.
Nancy is close with another wolf conservationist, the founder of a sanctuary for wolves just north of New York City, pianist Helene Grimaud.
It's not surprising then that she lists Helene's performances as some of her most favorite, but not only because the music is moving and touching and played by one of her best friends, but also because it reminds her of the cacophony of morning sounds in the forest or the stopping and starting of a herd of water buffalo migrating across the African Plains.
