Called the "model of a major symphony orchestra community style" the Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra likes to take risks.
Led by Bill Schrickel of the Minnesota Orchestra, the MSO recently performed Dave Brubeck's "Elementals" for symphony orchestra and jazz quartet to celebrate Brubeck's 90th birthday. It's not standard orchestral fare and the MSO played the with style and drive.
The orchestra has been invited to repeat that performance as part of the League of American Orchestras Conference next week in Minneapolis.
Dave Brubeck's "Elementals" with the MSO is in this week's Regional Spotlight.
Regional Spotlight airs Thursday at 3 p.m. on Classical MPR stations and web stream.
