Jane Ramseyer Miller has been conducting Minnesota's GLBTA - One Voice Mixed Chorus - for 17 years. And she tells me one thing has held true all those years, these concerts are not just concerts - they're experiences.
Definitely true this weekend, when One Voice presents the cantata "Brave Souls and Dreamers." Written by real-life partners Richard Seeley and Robert Espindola, the music celebrates the lives of visionary leaders like MLK, Nelson Mandela and Mother Theresa.
The words come from some of the most inspirational words written by Ghandi, the Buddha, Confucius, even Jimmy Carter.
And no better time than the present to look at the way violence and prejudice shape our lives and we're looking for answers and hope.
One Voice will begin the concert with other works to sort of prepare the listener for the cantata with pieces by Stephen Sondheim and Bob Dylan among others. Though the ensemble is all volunteer, Jane is a taskmaster and brings the group to a truly polished level. The concert promises to be full of inspiration and joy.
