While our winter has been mild by most standards, I think everyone remembers this past summer's heat with fondness. Recordings of performances from the Alexandria Festival of the Lakes from August of 2011 were just made available to Classical MPR and in this week's Regional Spotlight is a sunny performance of a famous Mozart work. His Trio for Clarinet, Viola and Piano is better known as the Kegelstatt Trio. The story goes that Mozart composed the piece while playing an outdoor form of bowling (think bocce). Mozart must have been winning that afternoon as the Kegelstatt is good natured and full of joyful melodies. It will be an easygoing accompaniment for thoughts of warmer days ahead.
Date of performance: Friday, Aug 19 2011
Name of piece: Trio in Eb for Clarinet, Viola and Piano K 498 (Kegelstatt)
Performers: Jennifer Gerth, Clarinet; Tamas Strasser, Viola; Susan Billmeyer, Piano
