In some ways, Joshua Bell has the best seat in the house. For the past three decades he has been performing as a soloist with orchestras around the world. When he's not playing, though, he has a front row view of another performer: the conductor. Over the years, Bell has spent working and talking with the world's top conductors about music. Those conversations have prepared him for his new role as Music Director, conducting the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields.
Bell joins pianist Sam Haywood in the studios of WQXR in New York to play music by Schubert and talk with Fred Child about new responsibilities as a conductor.
