Every weekday morning at 10 a.m., the hosts at Classical MPR play a stand-out work based on the theme for the week. We call them Morning Glories.
As we launch Voices of Spring (our choral emphasis in April), and look forward to the appearance of the King's College Choir, we'll hear five recordings by the Choir, including their latest release.
Monday
Handel: The King Shall Rejoice
One of Handel's festive coronation anthems, led here by the late Philip Ledger.
Tuesday
Britten: Missa Brevis
This year marks the centennial of Benjamin Britten; the Choir sings his "Rejoice in the Lamb" on their Thursday night concert.
Wednesday
Mozart: Requiem
Last year, the King's College Choir launched their own recording label. This brand-new recording is the second release on the label; the first was a new version of the Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols.
Thursday
Tallis: Lamentations of Jeremiah I
English sacred music, such as this masterpiece of Thomas Tallis, is central to the tradition of the King's College Choir.
Friday
Rutter: Gloria
John Rutter, one of the most beloved figures in contemporary choral music, premiered his Gloria in 1974, in Omaha, Nebraska.
