To celebrate the opening of the School of Music at North Dakota State University (NDSU) a new piece was commissioned from Minnesota composer Jocelyn Hagen. The world premiere of Swimming Into Winter took place at the Ordway Center for the Performing Arts in St Paul this past March.
The work involved the NDSU Concert Choir and Wind Symphony. Hagen's piece is a kind of "four seasons", embracing the idea of transition and seasonal movement over a large colorful canvas. It is a serene and joyful sounding work, and in this week's Regional Spotlight.
