Mill City Opera is out to ruin Figaro. Figuratively speaking, of course. For its second season, this upstart Minneapolis opera company performs Rossini's Barber of Seville in the ruins of the Mill City museum. It's the perfect combination of great singers, charming comedy, and music under the stars.
Last year's debut production of I Pagliacci was a smash success, and the hottest ticket in town. This year, tickets for all five performances of Barber sold out in minutes (if you're lucky, there could be a few rush seats and turnbacks the night of the show).
To get you behind the scenes, I spent some time in the studio for singing and conversation with director David Lefkowitz, and two of the stars of the show: Taylor Stayton, who sings the tenor role of Count Almaviva, and baritone Lucas Meacham, who is the Figaro, the Barber of Seville.
