For our new weekly feature, "Moveable Feast," Rachel Hutton of Minnesota Monthly joins John Birge to talk about where to go and what to eat in destinations Classical MPR listeners may be interested in visiting.
This week, Rachel and John are talking about what to see and eat in Alexandria, Minn., during the annual Alexandria Festival of the Lakes summer chamber music festival (Aug. 3 to 18).
Outdoors
Alexandria is well known for its "Chain of Lakes", a series of interconnected waterways that surrounds the region. These gorgeous lakes are great for boating, fishing, swimming, waterskiing or just sitting beside while enjoying a beautiful summer day.
Lodging
Arrowwood Resort and Conference Center is one of the area's accommodation options. It features a water park, golf course, spa and other recreation choices — as Rachel describes, "something for everyone."
Food (and drink!)
Carlos Creek Winery is a local winery that specializes in various types of wines, many of which are made with University of Minnesota-developed Frontenac and Marquette grapes. Carlos Creek Winery also offers wine tastings as well as complimentary tours.
