Today at 2 p.m., Minnesota Concert Opera (MCO) will perform at the MPR booth at the State Fair, located near the corner of Judson and Nelson. Classical MPR's Steve Staruch hosts.
Members of MCO who will appear at the Minnesota State Fair include soprano Colleen Meier, tenor Michael Mayer and Executive Artistic Director Stanford Felix.
MCO performs full-length operas in concert format using local and guest artists, piano or small orchestra, and an opera chorus, sung in the original language with English surtitles. Produced with minimal sets, costumes or staging, this performance style allows MCO to bring world-class opera to Minnesota's communities, introducing a large variety of opera (and occasionally musical theater) repertoire to various communities. The MCO's home venue is The Cowles Center for Dance and the Performing Arts in downtown Minneapolis.
Launched in September 2011, the MCO's 2013 - 2014 season begins Sept. 13 with The Mini-Ring, David Seaman's abbreviated Ring Cycle, which reduces Richard Wagner's four-opera, 16-hour cycle to one four-hour performance.
