Today at 2 p.m., resident artists from the Minnesota Opera will perform at the Minnesota State Fair at the MPR booth, located near the corner of Judson and Nelson. Classical MPR's Julie Amacher hosts.
The Minnesota Opera's resident artist program offers a full season of employment for artists beginning their professional careers. From late August through April, Resident Artists gain experience in assignments ranging from ensemble, understudy, comprimario to leading roles in main-stage performances. Resident artists also perform concerts on stage at Ordway Center for Performing Arts, Schubert Club's Courtroom Concerts, donor functions, adult education classes and regional outreach.
Six of the seven Minnesota Opera resident artists will be at the Fair today. They are:
Christie Hageman (returning soprano)
Rebecca Kryznski (soprano)
Shannon Prickett (soprano)
Victoria Vargas (returning mezzo-soprano)
John Robert Lindsey (returning tenor)
Matthew Optiz (returning bass-baritone)
These artists will be performing selections by Puccini, Gounod, Bizet, Offenbach, Verdi, Mozart and others.
