As we think about movies with a back-to-school theme, there's a beautiful and rather somber one that comes to mind. It was even filmed at a real private school in Vermont.

Dead Poets Society tells the story of the fictional Welton Academy in 1959. The film was directed by Peter Weir and stars Robin Williams.

Dead Poets Society won an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay, and it was further nominated for Best Director and Best Picture. Robin Williams received an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor in a Leading Role, and his role in this film is widely regarded as being one of his best.

For music, the production team turned to David Lean's muse Maurice Jarre, who composed the scores to all of David Lean's films from Lawrence of Arabia onward. Jarre has been nominated for a total of nine Academy Awards, and is a three-time Academy Award winner for the films Lawrence of Arabia, Dr. Zhivago and A Passage to India.
