For the past 10 years, you've heard his calming and oh-so-rational voice in the afternoons on MPR News, dispensing advice on everything from sorting fact and fiction when it comes to obesity, to the controversy surrounding childhood immunization, to the fact that the plague is still in existence in the United States.
But have you yet heard Dr. Jon Hallberg tell of the time a piece of music we were playing over here on Classical MPR forced him to stop his car and simply sit and listen to the end?
Or that some of his very best friends are musicians including the entire Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra a group he provided professional services for as the European tour "physician" of that his wife was the cute flute player in band he didn't let get away.
Dr. Hallberg does important work as Medical Director of the University Physicians Mill City Clinic as well as assistant professor in family medicine at the U. He doesn't get nearly the time he wants anymore to play his saxophone, but music plays a vital role in his life.
Dr. Jon Hallberg's playlist:
Darius Milhaud, Scaramouche - Branford Marsalis/Orpheus Chamber Orchestra
JS Bach, Brandenburg Concerto No. 4, Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, Ruggero Alafanchini (live recording)
Traditional, We Shall Walk Through the Valley - Dale Warland Singers
Dave Brubeck Quartet, "Take Five"
Next week, our guest is the Mexican Consul to the Twin Cities, Alberto Fierro-Garza.
