If you went to a Halloween party dressed as Amancio Alcorta, you might go as a lawyer, as a diplomat or as a composer. (Would the real Amancio Alcorta please stand up?)
You'd have your choice of costume because Alcorta pursued all three professions in 19th-century Argentina.
It's Alcorta's Gran Fantasia for flute and piano that's his calling card in today's Regional Spotlight. Musical sunshine fills a performance of this piece by flutist Paula Gudmunson and pianist Tracy Lipke-Perry from a recital at the University of Minnesota-Duluth's Weber Concert Hall earlier this month.
