Where Are They Now? spotlights Minnesota Varsity Featured and Showcase Artists from 2011, 2012 and 2013. Flutist Joshua Weinberg from St. Peter, Minn., was a Minnesota Varsity 2011 Showcase Artist. He recently got in touch with Classical MPR's Christine Sweet to share what he's doing now.
Click the play button above to listen to a recent recording of Weinberg performing Kokopeli by Katherine Hoover. Coincidentally, this is the same piece Weinberg performed at the Minnesota Varsity 2011 Showcase Concert.

I have discovered a lot about myself as a musician, and I have matured a lot as a person since I performed on stage at the Fitzgerald Theater.
I hope to pursue more chamber music in the future. After I graduate college, I want to study in Austria for a while, and possibly get a master's degree in performance. I also would like to take a year off for myself to study philosophy and Buddhism in Tibet, and widen my horizons to other cultures and practices.
This past summer, I had the wonderful opportunity to intern at Minnesota Public Radio for Performance Today. It was an incredibly rewarding experience, and I attribute getting my internship with the connections I received from the Minnesota Varsity showcase. It has opened doors for other music performances, including performing at the public forum held by Orchestrate Excellence this summer, as well as developing my credentials for a professional career in fields other than performance.
Minnesota Varsity 2014 is now open for submissions. Learn how to submit your music here.
