Carol Rudie is both passionate and fearless. When she asked to be trained as a docent at The Museum of Russian Art she was told that she'd have to train herself, and she did. When her TMORA fans wanted to take a trip to Russia but only wanted to go with Carol, she did the research and led her first tour group to Russia. Her all-Russian playlist is filled with familiar pieces and works from Russian paths less traveled.
Tchaikovsky: Overture to the Nutcracker with the Minnesota Orchestra conducted by Leonard Slatkin. Pro Arte 121
Alexander Scriabin: Sonata Fantasy Op 19 (Presto) with pianist, Bela Davidovich. Philips 412 742
Church music from the choir of the monastery of Sergiev Posad (from the personal CD collection of Carol Rudie)
Tchaikovsky: 1812 Overture with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra conducted by Fritz Reiner. RCA 5642
Next week: Imagine a kid traipsing after his dad, a building inspector, checking out all the nooks and crannies of a small liberal arts college in rural western Pennsylvania. Bill Craft was that kid. Born to the "academy", Craft is now the President of Concordia College in Moorhead, Minn. His inspiring all-choral playlist is filled with many of the works he's sung.
