For our new weekly feature, "Moveable Feast," Rachel Hutton of Minnesota Monthly joins John Birge to talk about food topics in which Classical MPR listeners may be interested. This week, John and Rachel's word of the day is "soup."

Byerly's wild rice soup is a Minneosta classic, but on her way in to Classical MPR's studio in St. Paul, Rachel was reminded of the dowjic at Babani's Kurdish Restaurant, located just a couple streets over from MPR. The dowjic is a chicken-broth-based soup and it's soothing, but also has a bit of a tangy bite to it.

Also in downtown St. Paul, one can find the matzo ball soup at Meritage.

Experiencing a resurgence right now is ramen — not the supermarket packets you may have eaten in college, but Japanese noodle soup ramen. Recommendations include restaurants such as Moto-I, OneTwoThree Sushi, Tanpopo and Masu.

Another favorite winter warm-up is of course, the classic hot cocoa. It may seem weird to go to an ice-cream shop for hot chocolate, but Rachel recommends Crema Café in South Minneapolis. The hot chocolate at Crema is rich and there's a depth to the chocolate. As John puts it, a place that does hot-fudge sundaes probably knows its chocolate.
