Every weekday morning at 10 a.m., the hosts at Classical MPR play a standout work based on the theme for the week. We call these works Morning Glories.
On Friday, Feb. 7, the Minnesota Orchestra returns to Orchestra Hall, and Stanislaw Skrowaczewski will be on the podium. On Morning Glories, we'll sample the rich variety of recordings that Skrowaczewski and the Orchestra have made together.
Monday
Prokofiev: Romeo and Juliet Suite No. 1
It was the Minneapolis Symphony Orchestra (pre-name change) that made this recording in 1962.
Tuesday
Handel: Royal Fireworks Music
Orchestra and conductor are often associated with 19th and 20th century works — but here's an outing to the baroque era.
Wednesday
Bach/Skrowaczewski: Toccata & Fugue
This work opened Orchestra Hall in 1974, and will be heard again Friday night.
Thursday
Ravel: Rapsodie espagnole
Skrowaczewski's recording of Ravel's orchestral music is one of the landmarks of the Orchestra's discography.
Friday
Beethoven: Consecration of the House Suite
We'll offer Beethoven's tribute to a new theater, as we look forward to Friday night's live broadcast from the new Orchestra Hall.
