It's Choral Music Month here at Classical MPR. On today's Learning to Listen, hear great choruses from the stage and screen.
It's also a subliminal music history lesson, because you don't hear choruses like this in Baroque-era operas. You'll rarely hear them in Classical-era operas, either.
Giant, epic choruses are far more common in the Romantic era and beyond. As a result, you can expect to hear choruses by composers from that era, like Richard Wagner, Giacomo Puccini, Giuseppe Verdi and Franz Schubert.
There are other celebrations of choral music on our site and on the air. You can vote for your favorite piece of choral music here, or listen to our 24/7 Choral Stream here.
