On Tuesday, April 22, at 8 p.m., Classical MPR presents a special program featuring the music of the Dale Warland Singers. Curated by Steve Barnett and hosted by Bill Morelock, the program is titled, Choral Hero: Dale Warland's Minnesota Voices.
These recordings were carefully selected from MPR's digital audio archive and span the years 1986 to 2004. The program's playlist specifically features music by Minnesota composers, including such luminaries as Libby Larsen, Stephen Paulus, Carol Barnett, Jeffrey Van, Dominick Argento, Cary John Franklin and Dale Warland himself. "I tried to pick composers who had special relationships with Dale and the Singers as well as good pieces of music that were both performed well and recorded well," program curator Steve Barnett says.
Additionally, all the music is performed a cappella, befitting the reputation of the Dale Warland Singers.
