For our weekly feature, "Moveable Feast," Rachel Hutton of Minnesota Monthly joins John Birge to talk about where to go and what to eat in Minnesota.
With Memorial Day weekend upon us and many people heading to their cabins, John and Rachel look at a couple places to eat in the Brainerd Lakes area.
For an "old-school supper club" choice, Rachel suggests Norway Ridge in the city of Pequot Lakes. Norway Ridge is decorated in cabin style, with a knotty-pine interior decorated with antiques. It's known for its steaks and its lobster, and it even has a $300 bottle of champagne for those who are in a particularly celebratory mood.
A little south of Pequot Lakes off Highway 371 is the Grandview Lodge, and the historic inn is home to Cru Restaurant and Wine Bar. As the name suggests, Cru is a wine-centered restaurant with a vast cellar that includes rare vintages and even a number of bottles from Minnesota expats who have left the region to start their own wineries.
The menu at Cru features small plates and contemporary cuisine — options that pair well with wine.
