Every weekday at 10 a.m., the hosts at Classical MPR play a standout work based on the theme for the week. We call these works Morning Glories.

As teachers and students begin a new school year, our Morning Glories continue the theme of Music for Learning with five soloists who are also dedicated to music education.

Monday

Schubert's Sonata in B Flat, played by pianist Barry Douglas. (Read more about Barry Douglas and the power of music here.)

Wednesday

Nicola Benedetti's educational efforts include mentoring, master classes, and work for Sistema Scotland — her local version of the famous El Sistema program. We'll hear her play music of Scotland on her newest disc.

Thursday

This Boccherini quintet features guitarist Jason Vieaux, who also teaches guitar — digitally.

Friday

The celebrated Chaconne of Bach, transcribed by Brahms, and played by Leon Fleisher. As a boy, Fleisher studied with the great Artur Schnabel, and now, Jedi-like, passes his insights on to a new generation — as in these master classes.
