This season, we've added a new twist to Music with Minnesotans, the a weekly series that airs Tuesdays at 5 p.m., in which Steve Staruch brings in various Minnesotans to talk about the classical music that moves them.
The new twist helps extend your involvement in the show. At the end of each episode, you're invited to suggest a piece of music to the week's Music with Minnesotans guest, based on his or her playlist. Send us your ideas that answer the question: What else do you think this person might like?
Last week, Music with Minnesotans guest Katie McCurry received a suggestion from Deborah Hanson, who recommended Sergei Prokofiev's Cello Concerto in E minor, Op. 58. "[It's an] amazing piece, rarely heard," Hanson wrote. "Played masterfully by Tony Ross, principal cello of the Minnesota Orchestra a couple seasons ago!"
After listening, McCurry had this to say:
"Thanks so much for passing this on … I have to say, I do not know the piece, but I just listened to part of it, and do not recognize the Prokofiev cello concerto at all — but I'm keen to listen to it and become familiar to it. And aren't we glad to have the Orchestra back? You are right about Tony — he brings so much beautiful music to us, so many great performances.
"My thanks to our listener for sending it in."
Here's a way to give the Prokofiev a listen:
Be sure to check Music with Minnesotans on Tuesday evenings at 5 to hear each guest's playlist, or check it out on classicalmpr.org. After listening, send us your suggestions and we'll pass them on and share the guest's reaction, just as we did with Katie McCurry.
Listen to Music with Minnesotans, hosted by Steve Staruch, each Tuesday at 5 p.m. All programs are also posted online on classicalmpr.org.
