Several members of the Minnesota Concert Opera visited me in the studio this week for bright performances and lively conversation.
We had two arias and then we talked about why the Minnesota Concert Opera format works, particularly the intimacy of a concert as opposed to a theater production. We also talked about Minnesota Concert Opera's bigger orchestra — it has the entire Kenwood Symphony on stage.
There's also a snapshot of Cavalleria Rusticana, a chat about Minnesota Concert Opera's educational program, "Opera 101", and a position statement on the Met Opera's controversial presentation of The Death of Klinghoffer.
We concluded with more wonderful singing!
Here's who joined me:
Stanford Felix, Artistic and Executive director
Antonia Felix, Associate Director
Lori Phillips, soprano
Matthew Vickers, tenor
Craig Fields, chorusmaster (MacPhail, Duluth Festival Opera)
Yuri Ivan, conductor of the Kenwood Symphony
Mark Bilyeu, piano
