Every weekday at 10 a.m., the hosts at Classical MPR play a standout work based on the theme for the week. We call these works Morning Glories.
This week on Morning Glories, we're throwing a communal birthday party for some noted composers — all born this week.
Monday
Ennio Morricone (November 10, 1928; Rome): The Mission Suite
Classical MPR listeners voted this Morricone soundtrack No. 3 in a list of most popular film scores.
Tuesday
Francois Couperin (November 10, 1668; Paris): France, from Les Nations
Couperin's collection pays tribute to various "nations" of Europe — including his own.
Wednesday
Alexander Borodin (November 12, 1833; St. Petersburg): String Quartet No. 2
This beloved quartet has some of the best tunes in the string quartet repertoire.
Thursday
Fanny Mendelssohn (Nov. 14, 1805; Hamburg): String Quartet
Fanny Mendelssohn was long thought of as "Felix's sister." In recent years, she's been gaining more attention in her own right.
Friday
Aaron Copland (Nov. 14, 1900; Brooklyn): The Tender Land Suite
This suite comes from Copland's only full-length opera, about an ordinary Midwestern family, and is written in the composer's best all-American style.
