One of the notable upcoming openings this year is The Lexington — the longtime storied St. Paul mainstay. New owners are Josh Thoma and Kevin Fitzgerald (co-owners of Smack Shack) and Jack Riebel (from Butcher and the Boar). Their plan is to bring it into the next century, but they'll still keep the chicken pot pie — but expect some 'cheffy' flourishes.
In late 2014, the same group took on a fourth partner, Lorin Zinter (of Heyday), and just took over the lease on the old Forum space in downtown Minneapolis. A few others have taken a chance on this Art Deco architectural wonder, so we'll see if this crew can make it work. Their idea is to create a modern Italian menu, translating the name and calling it Il Foro. They've recruited a chef who once worked at Goodfellow's (when it occupied this space), and then went on to work at one of Mario Batali's restaurants inNew York. They plan to open Il Foro first, followed by the Lexington.
