"Fencing. Fighting. Torture. Revenge. Giants. Monsters. Chases. Escapes. True love. Miracles."
A young boy (Fred Savage) falls ill, and his kindly grandfather (Peter Falk) stops by to read him a story to cheer him up — promising a tale filled with all the preceding elements. So begins 1987's The Princess Bride.
The film (based on the 1973 novel by William Goldman) also stars Cary Elwes, Robin Wright, Mandy Patinkin, Christopher Guest, and Wallace Shawn, and is one of the most quotable movies of all time — famously inserting lines like "as you wish" and "inconceivable!" into the common lexicon.
On this week's Flicks in Five, we'll hear some of Mark Knopfler's Academy Award-nominated music written for The Princess Bride.
