Flicks in Five: Erich Wolfgang Korngold

He was playing piano at age 4, writing short pieces at 7, and by the time he was a teenager, he had written an opera.

Erich Wolfgang Korngold considered film music to be "operas without words," and during his time at Warner Bros. studios, he had writiten 18 original motion picture scores — including 

Juarez, Anthony Adverse, The Adventures of Robin Hood

 (for which he won an Oscar for Best Original Score), and 1939's 

The Private Lives of Elizabeth and Essex,

This week on Flicks in Five, Lynne Warfel discusses Korngold, and shares music from that Oscar-nominated soundtrack.

Lynne has been at this radio thing since 1984 when she fell into an historic job at KFAC AM and FM, the commercial classical station in Los Angeles.  She was the first woman staff announcer in the station's history, and it was such big news back then, it made the LA newspapers and national radio publications.  She is thrilled women in radio is no longer newsworthy.
