So the Saints season may be over, but there's still reason to go to Lowertown St. Paul.
One reason is the new Saint Dinette — a second restaurant from the team behind the Strip Club Meat and Fish. I love the Strip Club and don't get there often enough — great steaks, as you might guess, plus a funky gothic ambiance and warm hospitality. Saint Dinette's menu was inspired by French influence in the Americas — everything from Montreal to Louisiana. It's an eatery well-suited for snackers. You can find a wide variety of options from dilly beans to beef ceviche with dulce de leche. There's boudin (which is Cajun sausage) and it's one of the few places where you can find fried smelt.
Right near CHS Field, you can find The Ox Cart Ale House, which serves upscale pub fare. You can find everything from Coney Island hot dogs to arctic char, and they might be the only place around with oxtail soup on the menu!
There's also Big River Pizza, which started as a farmers market stand and is now a brick-and-mortar establishment. They offer wood-fired pizzas, with toppings like plain old pepperoni and sausage, as well as more unusual choices such as bacon jam. Like Ox Cart, Big River has a wide selection of craft beers on tap.
