Minnesota Concert Opera explores the life of Maria Callas

Minnesota Concert Opera: La Divina

You might think you know absolutely nothing about opera —l but I'm willing to bet you know one thing — or at least would recognize one picture. That would be a picture of Maria Callas.

A Greek goddess known for intensely theatrical performances, Callas was an über-diva who famously said, "I will always be as difficult as necessary to achieve the best." Her life was surrounded by controversy. She was not a soprano without vocal weaknesses, but her onstage presence was electric. She was a myth, a legend — and unforgettable.

Maria Callas died in 1977, but our obsession with her continues to this day. This weekend, you'll have an opportunity to look deeply into her life through word and song in the one-woman show La Divina written and directed by Antonia Felix.

Felix, along with soprano Andrea-Lynn Cianflone and pianist Bryon Wilson bring us a preview of La Divina.
