It's a song, sung to the moon:
O, moon, stand still for a moment,
Tell me, tell me where is my lover!
And time stands still in this gorgeous aria, sung by a Mermaid longing for a Prince. He's out of reach to a mermaid. But what if she could magically transform into a human?
That's the story of Rusalka, the mermaid of Dvořák's fairy-tale opera of the same name. She comes to life through the voice of soprano Kelly Kaduce, star of Minnesota Opera's production of Rusalka, which opens this Saturday.
Classical MPR will broadcast the Minnesota Opera's sold-out opening night of Rusalka on Saturday, Jan. 23, starting at 7:30 p.m., but Kelly Kaduce was kind to give a sneak preview, singing that luminous aria for you in the studios of Classical MPR.
