March’s composer of the month is Giacomo Puccini.
Born: December 22, 1858
Died: November 29, 1924
Five facts:
• Puccini composed ten operas (though Il trittico was actually three one-act operas) and has been called "the greatest composer of Italian opera after Verdi."
• Puccini was passionate about modern technology, and was good friends with Thomas Edison.
• In 1903, Puccini was in a terrible car accident that left him house bound for months, slowing completion of his next opera, Madama Butterfly.
• The composer died of complications from throat cancer before completing his final opera, Turandot (which was later completed by Franco Alfano)

• Madama Butterfly (1904)
