Every weekday at 10 a.m., the hosts at Classical MPR play a standout work based on the theme for the week. We call them Morning Glories.
2016 marks the 400th anniversary of the death of Shakespeare, with celebrations of the Bard and his immortal works happening worldwide. The Great River Shakespeare Festival, a yearly gathering of professional actors focusing on performance of and education about all things Shakespeare, is currently underway in Winona. And in Minneapolis, Verdi's Otello is the big opera finale of Minnesota Orchestra's Sommerfest (which you can hear live on Classical Minnesota Public Radio, Saturday, July 23 at 7:30 p.m.!). This week's Morning Glories highlight pieces inspired by five of Shakespeare's most popular plays.
