It'll make you want to search the attic to see what's up there. In 1982 in Melbourne, Australia, Christopher Hogwood was presented with a shopping bag filled with some old stuff, including the original manuscript of the Haydn Op. 50 string quartets. The "old stuff" had been in the family of a mid-19th century British colonel who purchased the manuscripts shortly before leaving England for New Zealand.
More delightful than the story is the music itself. The Haydn Opus 50 No. 1 quartet was on the program on Saturday, Nov. 12, 2016, with the Verona Quartet performing with the Chamber Music Society of St Cloud. That performance is in this week's Regional Spotlight.
