There are a lot of movies that have brief passing scenes about New Year's Eve or New Year's Day. But on the whole, there aren't a lot of movies that really feature New Year's in a big way — the music you're going to hear this week is no exception.
It was in May of 1940 that Irving Berlin signed a contract with Paramount Pictures to write music for movies — in particular a movie he was developing about an inn that was only open on the holidays. The film starred Fred Astaire and Bing Crosby, and for it, Berlin wrote 12 songs, including "Happy Holidays" and "White Christmas."
On this week's Flicks and Five, we'll head into the new year with the voices of Bing Crosby and Marjorie Reynolds from the soundtrack to Holiday Inn.
