Flicks in Five -- 2001: A Space Odyssey

Back in 1968, a film was made that revolutionized the science fiction genre.

Directed by Stanley Kubrick (who also wrote the screenplay), 2001: A Space Odyssey dealt with human evolution, technology, artificial intelligence, and extraterrestrial life — all the elements that make a great science fiction tale great.

The soundtrack was extremely important to the movie. In particular, three classical pieces served as recurring leitmotifs for the film's storyline: Johann Strauss's On the Beautiful Blue Danube, Györgi Ligeti's Requiem, and perhaps most famously, Richard Strauss's Also Sprach Zarathustra.

On this week's Flicks in Five, we'll travel back to Hal and Dave arguing about the pod bay doors in 2001: A Space Odyssey.
