Erika Hoogeveen, second violin, and Valerie Little, viola, of the Mill City String Quartet sat down with Classical MPR's Julie Amacher to chat about their ensemble's Class Notes Artist experience.
The ensemble performed:
• Juan Arriaga — String Quartet No. 1 in D Minor, III. Minuet
• Felix Mendelssohn — Four Pieces for String Quartet, Op. 81, I. Theme and Variations, Andante Sostenuto
One of my favorite classrooms, I think it was 4th and 5th grade, had one boy who whenever we were playing had a very dreamy look on his face and we would finish playing and he would say "Wow" every time. And while that meant a lot to us, you could tell that he heard something in the music that really connected with him and he understood it in a way that was important to him.
