One of the early memories I have of recognizing big screen actors was of stage and film actor Robert Preston.
In 1962, I remember going to the movie theater and seeing him in what was probably his best known role: Professor Harold Hill in The Music Man. Then when I was in 4th Grade, I remember hearing Robert Preston's voice in gym class — he was the voice of President Kennedy's Presidential Council on Physical Fitness, and he did a song we all worked out to called "Chicken Fat" (also written by The Music Man's Meredith Wilson).
Blake Edwards' 1982 film Victor/Victoria starred Preston along with Julie Andrews, Lesley Ann Warren, James Garner, Alex Karras, and others. On this week's Flicks in Five, we'll hear some of Henry Mancini's music from that film.
