We were sorry to hear that conductor David Zinman had to withdraw from this week's Minnesota Orchestra concerts due to health reasons, and we certainly wish Zinman the very best.
But thanks to the quick work of the people at the Minnesota Orchestra, conductor Carlos Miguel Prieto will fill in for Zinman on the Minnesota Orchestra podium this week. Prieto is recognized as a highly influential cultural leader as well as being the leading Mexican conductor of his generation.
This week, Prieto, who serves as music director of the Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional de México and the Louisiana Philharmonic, will conduct the concert on Friday, June 2, that will feature Principal Cello Anthony Ross in Ernest Bloch's "Schelomo," among other works, including Richard Strauss's iconic Also sprach Zarathustra.
Listen to the live broadcast of Carlos Miguel Prieto and the Minnesota Orchestra on Friday, June 2, starting at 8 p.m., on Classical MPR. Brian Newhouse hosts.
