Picture two barges flowing side-by-side down the Mississippi River; a crowd on one, and on the opposite barge, a concert is taking place. You're thinking "hipsters," right? Well, 300 years ago, pre-hipster era, a barge was a concert venue fit for a king — King George I, to be exact. King George I commissioned Handel to compose music to be performed on the River Thames. The result: Handel's Water Music, which premiered on a barge on July 17, 1717.
