An unlikely candidate for one of novelist William Goldman's best works was "The Princess Bride." He was even surprised by the popularity. In 1987, Rob Reiner turned Goldman's 1973 novel into a movie that became a big success and a cult classic. It's considered one of the greatest comedies and one of the greatest romances. The story starts with Grandpa, Peter Faulk, reading a story to his grandson played by Fred Savage. The movie has some of the greatest lines of all time, some of which have entered common usage like "As you wish," and "Inconceivable!" The film was shot in various places in England. Actors Cary Elwes and Mandy Patinkin even had to learn how to fence. They performed all the fencing in the swordfight scene themselves. The score was composed by Mark Knopfler and there's a song in it, "Storybook Love," that's co-written and performed by Willy DeVille. It was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Song at the 60th Academy Awards.
