The centennial anniversary of the birth of Thelonius Monk is approaching on Oct. 10. In honor of Monk's landmark composition, "Round Midnight," Rachel Hutton and John Birge talk about late-night jazz and eats on this week's Moveable Feast.
For jazz and late-night eats, there's the Dakota in Minneapolis and sister music club-slash restaurant Vieux Carré in St. Paul. The Dakota has snacky things like gourmet wings and a killer burger, plus upscale entrées including steak and lobster. Vieux Carré has a shorter, New Orleans-focused menu, including a great muffuletta sandwich.
A few other favorites that don't have music but serve good food late are the 112 Eatery in the Warehouse District and Uptown's iconic Barbette. Also The Lowry in Minneapolis keeps the kitchen open late.
There aren't many 24-hour places anymore, even Minneapolis's collective-run vegetarian café Hard Times is now closed between 4 and 6 a.m., but if you're out in the Pipestone area, you may want to visit to Lange's Café, which is famous for its home-cooked food and pie!
