He was playing piano at 4, writing short pieces at 7, and by the time he was a teenager, he had written an opera.
Erich Wolfgang Korngold considered film music to be "operas without words," and during his time at Warner Bros. studios, he had written 18 original motion picture scores — including Juarez, Anthony Adverse, The Adventures of Robin Hood (for which he won an Oscar for best original score), and 1939's The Private Lives of Elizabeth and Essex, starring Bette Davis and Errol Flynn.
This week on Flicks in Five, Lynne Warfel discusses Korngold and shares music from that Oscar-nominated soundtrack.
